- If you've decided to have a wedding video done on the big day it's likely to
be shot using a digital camcorder. If you're not sure that a professional 3CCD digital
camcorder is being used you'd best check with your videographer. If your
videographer is using an analogue camcorder you may not get the results you
were expecting try to find one who shoot on digital.

Digital camcorder will give the best results on the day, results far better
than any analogue camcorder ever will. Analogue camcorders will produce
betweeen 240 to 400 lines of resolution (VHS resolution) while digital
camcorder will produce about 530 lines of resolution, which the difference
you actually see in a direct comparison is quiet amazing.

Make sure to get a DVD coy of your wedding video as a DVD will last
approxImately 80 years, should be easy to make a perfect copy, and will look
and sound as good in 80 years as it does today. By comparison a VHS copy of
your wedding will only last about 25 years, any copies you make will suffer
from "generation loss", and the copy you have will slowly deteriorate after
each playing.

Most videographers cost out at $150 per hour, that means an average should
be $1,500, don't even bother with quotes of less than $1,000.
One of the worst decisions you can make when choosing a wedding videographer
is to base that decision solely on the lowest price. You need to find a
videographer that you are happy with; have confidence in; and who will
create a video in a style that you are happy with. Remember your wedding is
a "one-shot" affair. Visit at least three videographers and choose the best one that you like and
suit your wedding day.

Make sure to meet the actual videographer and watch demo tape that was
filmed by him. It is easy to put a demo together to show someone
and then send a novice cameraman on the day...

Tell them what you what the finished tape to look like. If you dont like the
way they have edited the video, or the music used, it is because you
probably didn't give them a feel of what you wanted. Write down a script or
list of wants and give it to them well ahead of the wedding so they know how
they should film the wedding... candid, classical, mushy, fun etc.

The best way to determine if a videographer has the skill required is to see
samples of their work and see if they are qualified and experienced (you
don't want someone who bought a video camera last week, nor do you need an
experienced television studio cameraman who knows nothing about weddings).

Tell your videographer the style you like to film in;
DOCUMENTARY - events happen naturally.
STAGED - the wedding party are put through "corny" routines.
VIDEO CLIP - lots of camera movement and effects edited to music.
Or combination of all above styles.

Confirm exactly who will be taping your wedding. The shoot may be
subcontracted to someone who doesn't know what you want in your
video.

Make sure that your videographer has backup camera, wireless
microphone for the ceremony, dolly and tripod for steady professional
looking images during the ceremony and the speeches.

A good videographer should supply the completed video within 6-8 weeks
presented in plastic cases with professional looking full colour
slipcovers.

A formal contract states how much you pay, and when, and what you get for
your dollar. Make sure you get one. Read any contract carefully and discuss
any matters of concern with the videographer before you sign.

Some videographers use two cameras to film the wedding ceremony. This allows
the full ceremony to be filmed in its entirety. The resulting edit is much
more interesting to watch. use of a single camera results in an abridge edit
of the ceremony.

Secret to producing a
good video is making the bride and groom feel relaxed, almost to the point
that they don't even realize that they are being filmed.

You also need to 'click' with the cameraman i.e. make sure he has a
personality that compliments yours, and that you feel at ease with him...
after all, he needs to capture you looking as natural as possible and that
will only happen if you feel relaxed, and his style of filming is
unobtrusive.

Choose the music that you want on the video carefully because this is what
gives the video its special feeling. Tell your cameraman what style of video
you want... formal, relaxed, fun etc. Give him an invitation so he knows
exactly when, where and at what time.

Make the priest and reception hall aware that you are planning to have a
video and ensure that there are no restrictions. If so, make sure you tell
the cameraman.

Finally, and probably the most important point to remember, is that you
need to relax and have fun!!!
